WE COLLABORATE TO EDUCATE

EDUCATION       LEADERSHIP        MENTORSHIP

We are a knowledgeable team of health professionals, and also a committed and approachable group of nursing educators that provides best practice education and support to front line nursing staff of the medicine units at the University of Alberta Hospital.
We use critical thinking, clear communication and problem solving skills to ensure the highest quality patient care.  As a team, we have a diversity of knowledge and expertise and work together to achieve our common goals.

Nursing education is important to me because it’s an essential component of providing the best patient care possible and can be linked to better patient outcomes.   I think learning should be both interesting and fun, and that’s why I am so passionate about the MEDICINEcares Conference.  It’s a yearly event that all disciplines look forward to attending, where we can learn from the best of the best in their respective fields and reconnect with colleagues we haven’t seen in a long time – perhaps even since the last conference.  Hopefully we can have some laughs at the same time.  If you know me even a little bit you know how much I like to laugh : )  A good day at work for me?  Having a good giggle with co-workers and debriding a mucky wound, not necessarily in that order.

As a Medicine Educator I see the impact that continuing education, support network,  professional commitment has to our staff and patients. It connects research and new ideas with the “real world” of medicine and nursing. For this reason, the Medicine Conference is extremely valuable because it  allows healthcare workers to engage in a full day of education and networking  to expand and enrich their own practices and share real-time realities that we all manage.

I find that learners retain information if they find it relevant, interesting and fun. Our planning committee tries to keep that in mind when we plan our MEDICINEcares Conference.

The world of medicine and nursing is ever evolving. Education is a cornerstone to advance in our field of expertise.
MEDICINEcares conference gives us an opportunity to share relevant and pertinent information to our staff nurse. It lays groundwork for networking and sharing knowledge so that nurses will be better equipped to face difficult/unfamiliar situations.
I care about medicine because it truly is one of most altruistic professions you can be involved in. You can make such a positive impact with people/patients at their most vulnerable. Their experience is our experience.  As medical educators it behooves us to provide continuing education to staff to promote best practice, collaborate and share ideas and look for better ways to improve patient outcomes.

The MEDICINEcares conference is important to me, as it is a platform to assist attendees to amalgamate from different areas of practice and learn, share and apply best practice from and into their own area of expertise.

I’ve been the Master of Ceremonies for the past number of years at our Medicine conference so if you have been a regular attendee my face will be familiar. I work with an amazing Educator team on Medicine. We share the same goals and share our expertise. I have always wanted to teach and share ideas to improve patient care.
My goal is to inspire learning, provide opportunities and resources to support critical thinking. This conference helps to achieve academic success!  We strive to promote knowledge in the world of Medicine and empower the lifelong learner in a positive environment.
In the past we have had to turn away participants due to space restrictions and suffered through long line ups to get our nutrition. Each year we make improvements in conference planning and make changes to improve the experience for everyone! I look forward to meeting you all again for our Medicine cares conference this year!
